Boys Farm, located in Newberry, SC, serves as a haven for boys experiencing difficult family situations.  We believe in sharing Christ with hurting children in order to restore and build up families for generations to come.

HISTORY

Boys Farm was founded in 1960 by Reverend and Mrs. W. D. Shealy, Jr. (Pop & Mama). Preparation for this work was begun many years before in Charleston, SC, where the Shealy's were owners of a large, successful ice cream business. When they felt called into Christian ministry they sold their home and business and went off to college.

Upon completion of his undergraduate work and all but 10 hours towards his Masters, the Rev. Mr. Shealy served for several years as a pastor. This was not, however, the work which God had planned for the Shealys.

As the couple sought God's direction, He led them to establish a home for disadvantaged boys. They bought the current site with their own resources and began the work to which God had called them. During the early years of Boys Farm, the Shealys did all the work themselves and personally supplied nearly all the financial support. Pop Shealy raised and sold African Violets to finance the needs. However, as the number of boys increased, it became apparent that they could raise flowers or boys, but not both. From that time on the ministry has been supported entirely by faith.

Over the years, hundreds of boys have been helped at BoysFarm. The vision and love of Pop and Mama Shealy have touched countless lives.

TODAY

The boys who come to us have encountered difficult circumstances at a young age, which has affected their view of themselves, of others, and of God. We strive to build these boys in all areas of their lives: body, mind, emotion and spirit. All of our boys gain a sense of belonging and acceptance from the group home structure. Our ministry for at risk youth is located between Greenville and Columbia, SC and serves boys from throughout the Southeast.

Living on our beautiful campus gives our residents time and space to learn, grow, and heal. Currently we have a gymnasium, two baseball fields, a soccer field, two ponds for fishing and swimming, and pastures for cattle and goats. Our campus boasts an 18 hole disc golf course, a 5k off-road trail system, and countless ways to stay active and healthy. We also have a dining hall and four homes for living quarters for the boys and house parents.

Boys are given responsibilities, cultivate a solid work ethic and build self-esteem. They are encouraged to participate in activities, have fun, and explore their individual interests. The boys participate in various school and community activities and IMPACT programs focused on a variety of developmental needs. We have boys involved with sports, civic organizations and JROTC.  We also attend Christian summer camps that always have a positive impact upon the boys' lives.
