FAMILY TEACHING PROFESSIONAL – Live-in Position
NEXT for NEIGHBORS is a program of The Arc Westchester, created by Community Living Opportunities (CLO) and NEXT for AUTISM.

NEXT for NEIGHBORS is a first-of-its-kind program in New York offering a unique approach to ensuring a life of dignity, choice and engagement for adults with autism and those with related developmental and intellectual disabilities. A community living model, NEXT for NEIGHBORS combines the warmth and consistency of a natural home setting with highly individualized, comprehensive professional services, delivered and overseen by live-in professional staff.

These services are designed to empower and teach adults to live as independently as possible.

The Arc Westchester is a leading non-profit provider in Westchester County, New York. We seek couples or singles as Family Teaching Professionals to facilitate a high quality of life for persons within The, NEXT for NEIGHBORS residence.

This live-in position includes:

Main Responsibilities:
• Assist persons to implement habilitation goals to empower their independence.
• Manage services/activities.
• Supervise staff.
• Teach new skills.
• Promote behaviors to maximize independence.
• Develop schedules for high levels of participation.
• Ensure compliance with various regulations and with The Arc Westchester's adaptation of the Professional Family Teaching Model.

Job Requirements:
• High School Diploma/GED is the minimum requirement. Associates Degree or Bachelor's degree in a field of human services is preferred.
• A valid NYS Driver's License for at least 2 years.
• At least 2 years experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
• Professional Family Teaching Model Certification obtained through The Arc Westchester within 12 months of employment.

Job Description:  

• Supervise daily hygiene routines for 10 adults with developmental disabilities.
• Develop, implement and submit appropriate menus of well balanced, nutritionally healthy meals.
• Train and supervise 10 adults with developmental disabilities in independent self-care habits.
• Plan weekend and evening recreational activities for the 10 adults with developmental disabilities.
• Secure appropriate monies and transportation for Weekend Relief Staff.
• Schedule Weekend Relief staff from the approved list of personnel.
• Work closely with the campus Nurse to administer medication when appropriate and authorized by parent or guardian.
• Work closely with the Day Program Staff as well as the Special Care Facilitator to implement appropriate behavioral modifications and to maintain appropriate records for each adult with developmental disabilities.
• Maintain household budget
• Purchase food and supplies for the home.
• Maintain cleanliness of property and promptly notify Facilities Director and Operations Director of necessary repairs and maintenance.
• Other duties set forth by the Executive Director.

Job Description:  

House Parent Couple needed at Christian children's home in Black Mountain, NC. Previous experience in working with children in a residential setting desirable but not required. House parents work to provide for the needs of up to ten resident children in a designated house during a seven-day, alternate-week shift; teach residents basic living skills; run appointments; maintain their assigned cottage; and provide a supportive, home-like setting for youth.

Flexibility, patience, and a desire to change lives for the better a must.
Support services include an education coordinator (youth attend public schools), recreation coordinator, and administrative staff. Housing including dedicated bedroom and bathroom with shared office area provided during shift week (personal residence needed during off-week). Additional shared room provided for staff children. Well-behaved dogs with required shots and paperwork allowed on a case-by-case basis.
