Job Description:  

Sheridan House Family Ministries is looking for an "empty nest" couple, who have already raised children, to join our ministry as House Parents for the boys in our care. Our House Parents live in the home, creating a family environment for at-risk boys in middle school and high school. These particular positions have opened for the high school home on our campus. The children return to their parent's home on weekends and holidays. Each boys' home has a full time Behavioral Specialist to serve alongside House Parents. Parents of residents are required to attend parent training and counseling. The position includes salary, a private apartment, benefits, a retirement plan, food, medical, dental and life insurance.

Job Description:  

To provide care and training for the children in the home; to maintain the house. Ensure the children experience the highest levels of nurturing and loving care in all areas of their lives, help children develop a relationship with God and to promote and support the vision and mission statements of ERDLN

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Supports and efficiently carries out responsibilities in accordance with El Ranchito de los Niño's, Inc., Policies and Procedures.
2. Supports and carries out responsibilities in accordance with ERDLN, NMCCCA and CYFD Standards.
3. Represents El Ranchito de los Niño's, Inc., in a manner reflecting professionalism while working to enhance community understanding of the program.
4. Protects the confidentiality of ERDLN children & personnel information.
5. Maintains a high personal standard of professional and ethical conduct.
6. Performs assigned duties with the primary intent and purpose of carrying out the commitments of ERDLN, Inc.
7. Takes responsibility for knowing and implementing the goals, objectives, method, and activities incorporated in current funding documents.
8. Demonstrates keen observation skills:
a. Observes strengths and needs of the children.
b. Recognizes behavior and/or development of children deviating from the expected norms.
9. Monitor direct care staff activities as identified in each of their position descriptions
To include but not limited to assigning tasks and duties to part-time staff and volunteers.
10. Prepares menus for all meals a week in advance of cooking and provides them to the Home Administrator for review with nutritionist or dietician.
11. House cleaning, to include but not limited to sweeping, moping, dusting, window cleaning, toilets, vacuuming and other light duty maintenance issues as well as Laundry.
12. Must be able to read and understand warning labels on cleaning supplies/materials.
13. Cooking/Meal Preparation that is consistent with nutritional needs as outlined by the dietician and reviewed by the Home Administrator.
14. Work with Home Administrator to promote rewards based system of recognizing children's accomplishments as identified through program committee.
15. Work with Home Administrator to develop behavior interventions that have been identified and reviewed by the Clinical Supervisor where deemed appropriate.
16. Orientate new children in care—Home rules and expectations.
17. Properly supervise children and provide healthy boundaries

Houseparents assist the Unit Administrator in the leadership of the homes they live in and oversee the daily activities of the youth. They are responsible for maintaining a cohesive family unit and maintaining communication with parents, workers and guardians. They identify spiritual needs, correct negative behavior, tutor, plan activities and events, counsel/advise and teach the students to work through daily problems that may come up in the course of a day.

The Houseparent position at Rawhide is staffed by a married couple.

Required Job Qualifications:

Experience working with at-risk youth in residential treatment, foster care, or other direct care capacity
Ability to interact and effectively communicate with culturally diverse, psychologically or behaviorally challenged population
Experience in transitioning youth to positive situation (i.e., securing employment, creating and working on a budget, finding positive resources, and other beneficial environments)
Assertive, self-confident, and sensitive in working with teens and staff
Organized and dependable
Possess a valid driver's license, without restrictions, except for glasses, and have a good driving record
Demonstrate spiritual, social, emotional, and intellectual maturity
Parenting experience (preferred)

Description: Murrow Indian Children's Home is a Level-B, Faith-based 501 (c) (3) residential facility that provides a home for American Indian Children in State or Tribal custody as a result of abuse and neglect. A husband and wife need a calling from the Lord to the Ministry of Murrow. Houseparents are responsible for 8-10 children in a family-style setting. Consistency is of the utmost importance, as well as providing structure, and establishing good boundaries with the children. A private apartment, utilities and most meals are provided for the couple or family. Both Houseparents will actively support the children's culture, attend church, and attend cultural activities and events. Cultural activities and church attendance are required. A two-year commitment is desired.

Training: All houseparents will have training to aid them in caring for children. Training includes, but is not limited to: Trauma Training, Medication Administration, Managing Aggressive Behavior, First Aid/CPR, Prudent Parenting, Food Handlers, and Positive Indian Parenting.

The Teaching Parent position requires the combined efforts of a married couple to provide for the training and supervision of the boys in care. Under the guidance of the Program Director, this couple also offers encouragement and accountability to the parents of the residents.

Education/Experience
