Thanks.
Let me start by saying that this book was given to me 7 years ago by an
administrator as the entire training program at a facility I worked at.
I finally finished reading it yesterday. It is an ok basic book and
very briefly covers most aspects of residential child care. It was
written in 1984 and appears to be directed at shift workers in a treatment
center type setting.
The information that it has that would be useful for live in staff can
easily be found in other areas, mostly for free on this website. It is
a fairly inexpensive book; I just checked Amazon and it sells for under $6.
To me, the main theme of the book is:
- Observe, Listen and don't try to be a know-it-all when you are new.
- Be punctual and responsible.
- Learn from the experienced staff.
To all of this I say, AMEN!!!
If someone gives you the book, read it. Otherwise I would spend my
money on something a little more up to date.
